- Prior to my pet receiving an anesthetic, what will I do?
- Pets receiving an anesthetic procedure are admitted to the facility at 9am. They need to be fasted (no food or water) after midnight the night before the procedure. You will need to allow time to complete a Surgical Authorization Form prior to leaving your pet at our facility. The pet will receive a physical examination prior to receiving any anesthetic. Our staff will advise you when your pet will be ready for dismissal.
- My pet is currently on a therapeutic medication. How often are blood tests required?
- To monitor therapeutic drugs, the usual interval between blood tests is 6 months.
- How do I dispose of my pet's used syringes/needles?
- Effective September 1, 2008, a new law took effect making it illegal to dispose of home-generated sharps waste (HGSW) in the trash or recycling bins. HGSW includes needles, lancets, and other devices used to penetrate the skin for delivery of medications to animals or humans. Some examples of clients whose pets generate medical waste include diabetic patients and patients receiving home fluid therapy.
HGSW can be disposed of properly, conveniently, and at no cost at:
Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste
2100 E. 7th Street
Oakland
Call or log on for hours.

Needles must be in a sharps container which may be purchased at our office, a pharmacy, drug store or medical supply store.
We are not allowed to accept your HGSW for disposal.
